v1.1.5

stable

A security release that keeps restores inside the restore root.

Breaking changes

  • A restore refuses to write through a file or directory that already exists in the restore root. Restore into a new, empty directory instead.

Security

  • A restore can no longer be redirected outside the restore root by a symlink already present on the share. Such symlinks are resolved by the server and can be hidden from the client by older Samba versions.

v1.1.4

stable

A security release that requires message signing and hardens restores.

Breaking changes

  • SMB message signing is now required. Connections to a server that does not sign messages fail, instead of falling back to unsigned traffic that could be altered in transit. Enable signing on the server before upgrading.

Security

  • A restore refuses entries whose name or symlink target contains a backslash, which the server treats as a path separator and which could otherwise place a file outside the restore root.
  • A restore refuses a file that would take the place of the restore root itself.
